Antique Chinese Indigo Resist Cloth IV

$381.00

Medium to heavy weight: suitable for jackets, interior projects, etc

This cotton is woven by hand and dyed with traditional botanical indigo, using an ancient paste resist technique which is applied using hand cut stencils and a soy/lime paste. The process takes weeks as there is so much drying time and then dyeing and re-dyeing to get such a dark tone. Traditionally these textiles would have been used as bedding.

Rich in symbolic flowers and motifs, featuring the phoenix and flowers- Chinese symbols of good fortune and happiness.

This piece is in excellent condition, despite being very old. Due to the nature of handmade textiles, there’s an uneven texture, as it is hand-dyed after the cloth is woven, and you can expect unevenness of color and tone throughout

Color will vary from monitor to monitor.
