This antique rope is originally from Sicily, where it was made from hemp and dyed with Kermes- a red dye derived from the dried bodies of an insect known as Kermes Vermilio. These insects are native in the mediterranean, living as parasites on the Kermes Oak. They have been used in the region as a red dye since antiquity and are still a popular natural dye in Sicily.
This rope has uneven tone throughout due to the natural and hand processes. But it is in unused condition and ready for your project.
